As a classmate of his big sister Irene, I always remember his beautiful smile and his great sense of humor. He loved to dance and made sure he didn't mlss a one. A common thread seems to run through all the testimonies to Roger, he was fantastic at his chosen vocation, he brought love, joy and friendship to everyone he met and he lived a very rich and full life. God bless you Roger and rest well in God's loving arms.

I was blessed to know Roger towards the end of his days on this world.
He inspired so many with his strength, his ability to care, his capacity to find joy and laughter in all that was around him.
The world I know was better because he was in it.
Part of my heart is empty since he left but know my life is fuller for having his friendship and love.
Watch over us Roger

Roger was a wonderful man and a special friend. We bonded instantly being fellow "Yankees from NY" here in Texas and former ED nurses. I will always cherish our friendship and memories. Roger was always a happy man with the sweetest smile and a twinkle in his eyes (usually due to a devilish thought). He was a loving and caring clinician and true friend. He will be missed very much. May you rest in peace my fellow Yankee.
My thoughts and prayers are with his family~ he always spoke very lovingly about you all.
Sincerely,
Sonya Ochoa

I lost a brother 27 years ago, and today I lost a friend, a mentor, a brother and a loving part of my life with Roger's passing. With his encouragement, I too became a nurse and we shared many tears, laughs and dreams over the years. His smile, his sense of humor and his compassion and love for everyone he met has touched us all. How could we not be better for having known him? My fondest memories are of him playing and swimming on the beach with my 3 daughters and of Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays we shared as a family. The last time we all saw Roger was at my youngest daughter Kim's wedding, and oh what fun we had - dancing, laughing, singing and reminiscing. He will always be remembered as the friend/brother and uncle we all loved. Goodbye my friend! May you find peace and happiness.
We love you,

What a great photo of Roger with that million dollar smile. My memories of him come back so often, especially when I hear a 60's tune or I step out to dance somewhere. He was truly loved by so many and will be sorely missed. To his family, I am so sorry that I can't be at his services as we are now in Florida for two months but my thoughts and prayers will be with you. Thank you Sue for the updates which at the end must have been so difficult to write. What wonderful loving care you all gave him.
Roger, my dear friend, goodbye for now until someday we can dance again to those old songs.

I worked with Roger many years back in the ICU but remember him like it was yesterday. All of these comments are so very true. Roger brought happiness and energy wherever he went. He was very special and will be very missed! I can see his smile right now just thinking of him. There was always a smile!! I will always cherish knowing such an awesome man.

To those who mourn Roger's passing, I am a fellow collegue, nurse practitioner who came from Arizona about 9 months ago. I knew Roger when he was at his worst, struggling day-to-day with the burden his body carried, yet he still had a smile for me, and a cheerful word when I was having difficulty adjusting to my new role. He asked me if I had my horses yet (a dream of mine)but unfortunately I did not. He said he wanted to go riding one last time. Now I see him riding every day when I look up and see the clouds go roaring by!! I hope he made everyone he met to dream big, because I know he did for me! Best wishes in gentle healing!

I knew Roger for a year or so, I am the computer guy at Scott & White. In this short time it became clear to me what a good person he was. I loved his humor and his peace of mind, always had a smile on his face. How could I complain with my trivial issues when it seemed so easy for him to wear a smile on his face? He like my hair, thought I mist have a great barber to achieve this. I know he must have taken bride in his; he couldn’t wait to have a need for a hair cut. Dianne Mundkowski, the lady that cuts my hair welcomed Roger; she is hard to get an appointment with. Anyway, she, a person I have know all my life, saw and felt the same things in Roger. I want some one to know, a rough and ornery man from Texas cried the day he heard this Yankee died. I am a better man for have knowing him. Greg Garth

Roger was a wonderful friend and colleague. As so many have said, he had a great sense of humor that always made time spent with him positive and fun. It is so sad that he has left us because I know he still had many things to accomplish and he can be so proud of his accomplishments and service. He was truly a stellar clinician, compassionate and practical at the same time.
I was once told that God only loans us our friends and family and that when He is ready they must leave us even though we may not be ready. Roger is free of pain now and I am sure he knew how many people loved him and did not want him to leave. We will miss you and think of you fondly and often.

We carry in our hearts so many memories both good and bad that we reflect on through our life, All my memories of time spent with Roger as my friend are dear to me, and I can't recall one that doesn't bring a smile to my lips and a tug at my heart. Although we had not been in close touch in the most recent years, he always remained in my heart as a dear friend, who I danced with, laughed with and made childhood memories with. I hope he has found peace. I know for certain he is with God, and once again my heart is warmed knowing he now looks down on me.

I had the great pleasure of knowing Roger for almost 20 years as a peer, boss and most importantly as a friend. As the dynamics of our relationship changed over the years, it brought us closer together. Roger had such a gift of making everyone around him feel special. He was so open and honest, it made it easy to love him. You could be having a bad day and run into Roger, suddenly you were feeling better. His infectious smile, quick wit and positive attitude were a winning combination. He never met a stranger and could manage the most difficult people with ease. A gifted clinician who combined his clinical expertise and positive attitude to make a difference in the life of others. A truly special person. You will be greatly missed, but never forgotten. Until me meet again.

Roger lit up the room when he came from Houston to interview with us. It was easy to tell that he was open, honest, and unapologetically hilarious (when appropriate of course). He didn't change a bit after he was hired on as staff, and could be counted on to offer comfort and advice in the same visit, regardless of age or problem. He was a true caregiver in every sense of the word, and someone we all looked toward for a smile when things were not going the expected direction. He taught each of us some very important things about life, love, and caring. He will be sorely missed...

Since I am unable to say goodbye to Roger in person, I am happy to have this chance to give some comfort to his family. He was such blessing and wonderful friend; always easy to be with, he made you feel happy to just be. I know he loved his family and his home town and I am glad he was able to spend his last days with his beloved sister. He would show us pictures of Leroy and told us of the Jello Brick Road, and the Jello Museum. Roger never spread gloom or unhappiness, he only spread joy and laughter. And I will always miss him. I am very thankful I was able to know him for a very short, happy time; I am very sorry I will never get to share his laughter again.

There is less sparkle, less joy in the world today.
How do you try to encapsulate his resonance... And our paths crossed for only 2 1/2 years...
His love for life, his service to his patients, his naughty sense of humor... He never met a stranger and it was said that he knew more people at S&W than the physicians he worked with - some who have been with the organization over 25 years. A nurse practitioner in one of the hardest specialty areas, neurology, he provided extraordinary care, compassion, and competence with love & humor... I miss hearing his voice already. I will miss his sage advice and gentle but effective delivery ("darlin', that boy has issues..."). Always a New Yorker but built a life and endless circle of friends in Texas. And great faith in God.

I believe people come into our lives for a reason. The gifts I received from him have profoundly impacted me and will continue to alter my path. Perhaps, the thing I am most grateful for is that he let me care for him - something he had been doing for others his whole life - He let me in during one on the most challenging times in his life... And as I consequence, I felt valued and loved...
I am grateful for his family, especially Sue Smith who, with her siblings and mom, provided extraordinary support to him; his dearest friend Gater, who will remain a part of my life; and Vicki, who would let me cry so Roger would never have to see me sad...
A question channeled from him through me, 'did you make someone smile today".
And to you, Roger, rest in peace!
