Obituary of John Francis Downs

Kendall ~ John Francis Downs, age 81, formerly of Rochester, passed away Tuesday evening (March 11, 2014) at home with his loving wife at his side. He was born February 9, 1933 in Rochester, NY, a son of the late Nicholas J. and Marie Byrne Downs. John was a proud veteran, having served during the Korean War with the U.S. Air Force. He formerly worked for the Beech-Nut Corporation, and then eventually worked for and retired from the Genesee Brewery in Rochester. John loved playing cards, his Irish heritage, trains, cats and his "3 girls". He is survived by his devoted wife of 56 years, Martha (Nesius) Downs, his daughters, Martha (Russell) Bailey of LeRoy, Margaret (Doug) Wells of Bowling Green, KY and Lucy (Brad) Hartman of Myrtle Beach, SC ,3 grandchildren; Christopher Bailey and Jaime (Dave) Bailey of LeRoy and Eric (Tonya) Pisher of Bowling Green, KY and 4 great-grandchildren; Victoria Fetzer, Blake Fetzer, Jacob Pisher and Rachel Pisher. He was predeceased by his brothers, Nicholas J. Downs II of Rochester and Patrick Henry Downs of Long Beach, CA. Friends may call on the family on Monday,March 17 from 2 ~ 4 and 6 ~ 8 at the Falcone Family Funeral & Cremation Service Inc., 8700 Lake Road (Rt. 19), LeRoy, where his funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 11:00 AM. Interment will be in St. Francis Cemetery at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to either Hospice of Orleans, Inc., P. O.
