I met Jim in College at Canisius and what a great guy, he was so positive and always found the good in every situation, After we graduated I worked with him at the Americorps Program that helped Buffalo Public School Kids succeed. He was an amazing person and will be remembered always
Rest in Peace Jim

Dearest Katie, Joey & Anna,
We have lost a real winner in Jim. His love for you was always on display. He was fiercely loyal to the people and institutions he was a part of. He once attended a basketball game with my son and me at my alma mater, the University of Detroit, when they played Canisius, and spoke so highly of experience there. Getting to know Jim as a student at Cooley Law School, and later as dear friend, I can honestly say that he put all his effort into becoming the best attorney he could be, and he believed ardently in the good that he could accomplish in his profession. His sense of humor, his storytelling, his giving of time, his generosity and love made him a close friend to many people.
But the most important thing I can say about Jim is that I knew him to be a man of faith, which became more and more in focus with him as he became a husband and father. I truly, truly believe that he is with his Father in heaven, awaiting a joyful reunion with all of you that will forever wipe away the tears of today.
I can't tell you how sorrowful I am for this loss. The shock of this news hits all of us who know him hard. You have been and will continue to be in my prayers.
Love and sympathy from your good friend,
John "Proffy" Brennan

We had the honor to be around Jim and Katie over the years from their wedding to family vacations in Orlando and Sarasota (with Grandma and Grandpa Nicklyn). We will remember Jim for his love and affection with Katie and their kids. The kids loved and could not get enough of time in the water either pool or the Gulf, with Jim and Katie right there with them - lots of giggles all around. A gifted conversationalist, Jim found common interest with Don in concert events and shared stories. A life well lived at work and at home. God Bless.

My deepest sympathies on hearing of Jim's passing. I used to clean at the Old Court House and Jim was very kind. He appreciated the cleanliness of the building and would compliment me many times. My coworker shined up the sign in the building and the railing of the stairs and he was in awe of that. It was our pleasure to keep this building clean for the workers there including Jim. He treated us with respect and was great to talk to. He will be missed.
