Byron / Stafford ~ Barbara L. Stein, age 81, passed away on Saturday, March 25, 2017, at the Hildebrandt Hospice Care Center. She was born March 1, 1936 in Dansville, NY, a daughter of the late Mark and Dorothy Rowe Stein. Barbara graduated from Hornell High School in 1954 in the top 5% of her class. She received her BS in Biology / Medical Technology from Rochester Institute of Technology and earned her MS in Education from the University of Rochester. She worked for many years at St. Mary's Hospital as the Director of the Clinical Laboratory and for Bryant & Stratton in Rochester, as the Chairman of the Medical Department. Barbara was known for her leadership and passion for teaching in the medical and clinical departments for Hematology. She was very active in the American Society of Medical Technology, American Society for Training and Development, National Society for Performance and Instruction and Clinical Laboratory Management Association. She regularly dedicated time to teaching others in workshops and personal instruction. In recent years, she offered classes in Tai Chi in Batavia. She was a world traveler and has toured much of the United States, including Hawaii and Alaska, four European countries, along with New Zealand and Australia with her long time companion, the late, Betty Murphy. Barbara is survived by her sister, Betty (Bob) Coombs, one niece, three nephews, nine grand-nieces and grand-nephews, along with many dear friends. At her request, services will be private. Memorials are suggested to a Breast Cancer Charity of the donor's choice.
