Union, ME / LeRoy ~ Lawrence W. Dries, age 80, formerly of LeRoy, passed away early Wednesday morning (May 24, 2017) at his home.
He was born November 14, 1936 in Rochester, a son of the late Andrew and Estelle Myers Dries.
He is survived by his sister, Ruth Dries Tusch, brother, Alfred Dries and brother and sister-in-law, Andrew and Mary Dries, along with 34 nieces and nephews, 25 great nieces and nephews and many dear friends. He was predeceased by his brothers and sisters-in-law, Joseph and Dorothy Dries, Eugene and Marjorie Dries, John and Mary Dries, Paul and Nancy Dries and his sister and brother-in-law, Eleanor and Charles Cummings.
Larry attended Stone Church Country School and Pavilion Central School, where he was president of his senior class. He then attended Cornell College and received a bachelor’s degree. He eventually moved to Maine, where he was the manager of six J. J. Newberry stores and spent 30 years as the manager of the Rockland, ME store.
Larry had a love for country music and his fellow man. He looked after and provided free meals to approximately 10 homeless people, many of whom have kept in touch with him. Two of his best and closest friends are Clarence Sparks of Charlotte, NC and Walter Daggett of Ontario, NY.
Family and friends may call on Tuesday, May 30 from 1 ~ 5 PM at the Falcone Family Funeral & Cremation Service Inc., 8700 Lake Road (Rt. 19), LeRoy. His Rite of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, May 31 at 11:00 AM at Our Lady of Mercy Parish, St. Peter’s Church, 44 Lake Street, LeRoy. Interment in St. Francis Cemetery, LeRoy will follow.
