Obituary of Joyce Graham Jordan
LeRoy/Wyoming - Joyce Graham Jordan, 89, recently of Pittsford, died on September 6, two weeks short of her 90th birthday. She was born September 23, 1927 in Warsaw, NY, the daughter of Charles and Marjorie (Armstrong) Graham.
Following LeRoy High School, she attended Cornell University, graduating in 1949 with a degree in Economics. After brief stints in the Eastman Kodak Publicity Department and the Bank of LeRoy, her primary vocation became nurturing her two children. Always active in church and community activities, she served on boards of the LeRoy Central School, LeRoy Historical Society, Genesee Civic Ballet Association, and Genesee County Family Counseling Service. She also served as a deacon in the First Baptist Church. After moving to Wyoming, NY, she was a member of the Susan Look Avery Club, board member of the Middlebury Historical Society, and Elder of the First Presbyterian Church.
Although a world traveler, her favorite place was High Acres, the family farm with its beautiful views of the Wyoming valley. As a working dairy farm, Joyce kept meticulous breeding and production records for a herd of 100 Holstein cows, calves, and heifers. On the farm her love of dogs and horses flourished, fortunately culminating with a lower number than the dairy herd. With her green thumb, she designed and cultivated large flower gardens providing vivid color both inside and outside. For her entire life she was a voracious reader, with a keen interest in British history and literature, especially novels by Jane Austen.
She is predeceased by her parents and an infant brother. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Gilbert Jordan, her daughter Leslie (James) DeLooze of LeRoy, and her son Neil (Tammy Price) of Wyoming, six grandchildren, Darryl (Rachel) DeLooze of Fredericksburg, VA, Emma (Roger Klein) DeLooze-Klein of St. Louis, MO, Jessica (Tom) Shelby of LeRoy, Tara (Doug) Stella of Bergen, and twins Brianna and Neil Jr. of Wyoming. Seven great-grandchildren, a niece, and cousins also survive her.
Family and friends are invited to a service of remembrance September 23, 10:00 AM, at the Falcone Family Funeral & Cremation Service Inc. 8700 Route 19, LeRoy. This will be followed by a luncheon at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 6188 Main St. (Rte. 5), Stafford.
