Obituary of Jacob F. Weber

Pavilion - Jacob “Jake” F. Weber, age 97 passed away early Monday morning (September 26, 2022) at United Memorial Medical Center in Batavia.

     He was born May 19, 1925 in Covington, a son of the late Harry and Adelaide Murphy Weber.

Jake was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle and dear friend who enjoyed traveling with his wife Mary in their motorhome around the United States as well as traveling in Europe.  Jake and Mary belonged to three motorhome clubs.

     Jake graduated from Pavilion High School in June 1942 and was a World War II U S Army veteran.  He enjoyed playing basketball and baseball with the Pavilion High School and Pavilion Town Teams.

     For more than 45 years, Jake worked for the Town of Covington and the Town of Pavilion Highway Departments.  At the Town of Pavilion, Jake operated loaders, bulldozers, tractors, the road grader building roads and numerous other equipment.  During the 1950’s, 1960’s, 1970’s, and 1980’s, he drove “Big Bertha” a large truck with a V- Plow with side plows on both the left and right sides of the truck.  “Big Bertha” could push through large amounts of snow when other trucks would get stuck.  Jake and “Big Bertha” were well known in the town and famous during the Blizzards of 1966 and 1977.

     He was the oldest member of the Pavilion Fire Department.  Jake was a member of the Fire Department since 1955 and a member of the Fire Department Exempts.  He marched with the Fire Department at parades for many years when the Pavilion Fire Department were champions at the State Fair in Syracuse.  Jake was past President and Vice President of the Fire Department, past Chairman of the Fire Department Carnival, Bingo and numerous other committees. 

     Mary and Jake built their family home which burned to the ground in December 2021.

Jake enjoyed square dancing, round dancing, fixing cars and mowers, along with roofing and carpentry repairs for family and friends.

     He will be sadly missed by his loving wife of 71 years, Mary Murtha Weber; his son, Steve Weber; daughter, Marcia (Matthew) Mess; grandchildren, Jay (Shannon) Knower, Joshua Mess, Amanda (Paul) Thompson and Emily (Christopher) Herrmann; great-grandchildren, Brooklyn Knower, Jake Knower, Noah Cerio, Luke Cerio, Oliver Thompson, Cailey Herrmann and Riley Herrmann.  Jake is survived by his siblings, Genevieve Hint, William Weber, Vera Pursel and June (Marlowe) Leake, along with many nieces and nephews.

    Jake was predeceased by his siblings, Maurice, Mary Eva (infant), Harry, Elwood, Kenneth, John Weber and Elva Draper.

    There will be no calling hours.  His Memorial Service will be held at the Falcone Family Funeral & Cremation Service Inc., 8700 Lake St. Rd. (Rt. 19) in LeRoy, NY on Tuesday, October 25 at 2 PM.  Burial with military hours will be at a later date at the Western New York National Cemetery in Corfu, New York (Pembroke).

     In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Jacob’s family at 11256 Perry Rd., Pavilion, NY 14525.
